New Design Eliminates Equipment Challenges in the Field and Simplifies Attachment to Body Armor

The ThermoBak® AB™Pack by CamelBak® offers four new hassle-free packs that attach directly to a warfighter’s armor, providing easy access to hydration. The all-new ThermoBak AB features the best of both worlds: it can be worn as a stand-alone hydration pack or it can be easily attached to body armor.
In response to letters from soldiers outlining problems they were having in the field, CamelBak has re-engineered its hydration system for complete armor integration and added value. This new system is the quickest and easiest way to attach hydration directly to body armor – eliminating the need to wear shoulder straps or zip tie the hydration source to an armor vest. According to Hunter Shoop, GMI Product Manager for CamelBak, “Soldiers came to us with a problem: they wanted to attach their CamelBak to their body armor, but were cutting up their packs when trying to remove the improvised attachments and, at times, it was interfering with the rapid release mechanism. So our product development team went to work immediately on a new design. The final product addresses all of the soldiers concerns and much more.”
Though the innovation behind the new ThermoBak AB design is based on actual feedback received from troops in the field, it’s the CamelBak commi™ent to the well being of warfighters that drives the company to continue re-engineering its products.
The ThermoBak AB Packs features lighter-weight material and a lower profile. The new lowprofile design allows the wearer to sit upright, distributing the load when riding in transport and can be used with or without body armor, making it a versatile addition to a warfighter’s gear—as well as an increased value. Made lighter by the use of 500D Cordura®, these essential hydration packs feature all the essential elements CamelBak is known for, including the Omega™Water Beast™Baffled Reservoir, and the Big Bite™Valve.
The units attach directly to IOTV or MTV using the Split Bar side release buckle or Slik clips, giving the user better pack stability. Additionally, the newly designed ThermoBak AB packs have some special features such as a quick-attach pressure strap to cinch down the pack, creating enough water pressure to easily rinse glasses and goggles in addition to pack stabilization. Underarm tube routing is also available on ThermoBak AB packs for soldiers to configure their packs for optimal comfort and functionality. Now, for the first time, users have the ability to customize the fit and attachments or their packs based on their personal needs and comfort.
The new ThermoBak AB Packs are being presented at SHOT Show ’09 at the CamelBak Booth, #7985 in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, from January 15-18, 2009.
